Kutlwanong School for the Deaf. Rustenburg. Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa (CCBSA) recently partnered with the Thuto-Thebe Foundation and Caring for Girls organisation to donate sanitary towels to the value of R120 000 for learners.
As CCBSA, we are fully committed to ensuring that our youth receive education, as such when faced with the plight of young girls being unable to attend classes due to lack of sanitary towels. We decided to be actively involved with Thuto Thebe foundation and be a part of the solution by providing these much needed resources. We firmly believe that to ensure the future of our young generation we need to support them even if it may something as a basic need as sanitary towels. CCBSA has thereby donated R120 000 towards the Caring for Girls Campaign in Phokeng which will ensure that 500 girls will have sanitary towels to sustain them for the whole of 2018.
Her Royal Highness, Princess Tirelo Molotlegi is spear heading this campaign through their foundation Thuto-Thebe after seeing the plight of underprivileged young girls missing out on schooling due to a lack of sanitary towels. This happens due to the lack of funds, especially because most of the girls come from child headed households. Their vision is to improve the quality of education in South Africa for a more sustainable future and through partnerships with an organisation like Caring for Girls, they aim to bring meaningful and tangible support for learners. The launch held at the Kutlwanong School of the Deaf resulted in over 250 learners from their school and learners from surrounding schools receiving sanitary towels. More pads will be directly distributed to the various schools in the upcoming months.
CCBSA District Manager, Hlako Rachidi noted that it is a tragedy that most of our young girls miss school as they do not have adequate menstrual care which is, undoubtedly, a human right and it’s time for our corporates and communities work together to address that fact.”
The Caring for Girls foundation was formed by Richard Mabaso who took up this worthy cause to provide girls with much needed sanitary towels from an underprivileged background. Their organisation also makes boys aware of the changes they go through in puberty and to be more understanding to the changes happening in girls. Hopefully the plight of young girls will continue to be told and result in continued support for their welfare so they remain in school and succeed!
